Biography of Mark Jablonowski, founder and director of naturalrisk.org ...

Untoward events that happen by chance, i.e., risks, are a basic fact of life. Mark Jablonowski has been working with, researching and writing about the variety of risks we face, and their management, for over thirty years. During his long career, he has recognized both the promise of careful consideration and management of risk, as well as the pitfalls of too narrow a focus. We must all recognize that effective management of risk has to proceed with wider social goals in mind, including those that demand the preservation of our natural environment. Naturalrisk.org promotes the idea that humans can innovate to minimize existential risks for all, rather than multiplying them for the sake of material gains for a priviledged few. We do have a choice ... to live safer lives!

Mr. Jablonowski has authored many articles and commentaries on risk and its management, as well a four books. His latest, Planning for Balance: Making the Choice for a Safer Future (SwiftRiver Press, 2010) provides a comprehensive, yet easy to read, introduction to the natural risk approach to societal risk management.
