So, why do we accept mounting existential risks?
In some cases, the growth of human-induced risks may be obscured by imperfect knowledge of the complex environment in which we exist. Unfortunately, risks may often be intentionally hidden (or ignored) in order to promote short-term, selfish goals. When special interests act to hide or downplay the risks they create, we may realize the perils they create only once it is too late to really do anything about them. The result is risk dilemmas, of the "doomed if we do, doomed if we don't" variety.
The methods of achieving safe, naturally risk-free progress are not as diffcult as some would have us believe. They entail careful planning against high-stakes risk potentials, with an eye toward social as well as wider environmental goals, achieved on a collective basis.
